4 Stars Good product, but….
Printing a lot less color prints, because of price. Never thought I’d try generic ink, but taking a chance.

1 Star Wrong Ink Cartridge
I used Amazon’s Ink & Toner finder for my MP600. I was shipped the 8PM model when I actually needed the 8M. I opened the package and now I can’t return it so I’m out $15. Don’t trust the ink finder. It said that the 8PM was for my MP600 printer.

3 Stars Amazon says this is the right tank for my printer: It isn’t!
There has been a lot of criticism here of people who’ve complained that they ordered the wrong tank, i.e., a CLI-8PM, when they should have ordered a CLI-8M. Well the same thing happened to me. And guess what? On the page where the tank is displayed, Amazon has a box which says:

“Will this work with my printer?” It then (somehow) correctly figures out what printer I have and announces: “Yes, this will work with the Canon iP5200R printer.” Well, it won’t.

I had to spend $9.99 with Canon tech support last night to find out why my printer wasn’t recognizing my new tank from Amazon. The answer was it WON’T work in the iP5200R. Yes, I probably should have paid more attention, but Amazon pointed me to this tank and told me it would work.

So, this is supposed to be a review of the ink. Ok. I’ve had this printer for nearly four years and it makes beautiful prints. But the ink tanks drain rapidly, even when you’re not using color. I think this occurs because of the automatic cleaning cycle before printing. Also, the ink tanks have plenty of ink remaining when the entire printer shuts down and demands you get a new tank. You can’t even print a letter if, for instance, any of the color tanks are “empty.” So I give the ink quality five stars, but drop it by two stars for the excessive ink use and the way it shuts down until all tanks are refilled, even when they’re far from empty.

Amazon needs to get its act together on this. It’s not worth it for me to return a fifteen dollar leaky ink tank. Instead I’m going out today to buy an HP. I’ve had enough of Canon’s ink shenanigans.

1 Star Fix your “will this fit my printer?” gizmo please, Amazon
Having read the arguments as to whether people were reading the product information incorrectly or what, I thought I would try the “will this fit my printer?” gizmo. It told me that this product *will* fit my printer (a Pixma iP4300) when it WILL NOT.

So, Amazon, sort your gizmo as it is actively misleading your customers.

1 Star Don’t Trust Amazon’s Ink and Toner Finder tool
I checked Amazon’s Ink and Toner Finder tool or the Will This Work with Your Printer? tool that appears with the Ink description according to that the Ink i ordered works with my Printer, After ordering receiving this Ink tank and installing on my printer, a Canon MX700 the Ink tank was not recognized…. Instead of the CLI-8PM I Needed the CLI-8M, but Amazon’s tool still shows that this is the correct Ink for my printer when It is not… Now I can’t return the ink as I opened the box.

5 Stars Once you go black…
If you like black ink, you’ll love these little black ink cartridges from Canon. In fact, my Canon Pixma iP4500 printer won’t even work without this cartridge. Unlike the normal “skinny” black ink cartridges, these are fat and come three to a box. Canon says it’s a pigment ink formulation for long-lasting prints. I agree. I call these “Fat Black” or “Special K” cartridges (’K’ means black in the graphics industry). I’ve never had a problem with these, and they last a lot longer than the other four colors of ink (C, M, Y and the skinny K). There’s something satisfying about snapping one of these big boys in to the print head, and when the ink finally runs out (Canon says it will yield approximately 650 pages per cartridge, based on 5% coverage), a nice red light glows to indicate that it needs replacing. Canon inks have a clear window so that you can see that they’re really empty, unlike Epson; this is one of my favorite features of Canon inks (you can periodically check them to see for yourself when they’re getting low and not just take the word of the print utility).

If there is a downside, however minor, it’s that the new boxes that these come in opens on the side and can’t be re-closed; the old boxes opened on the top and had a re-closable flap. Also, don’t get this ink on your skin because it’s really hard to get off. This isn’t likely to happen unless you pull the seal tab off the bottom incorrectly, but I know someone who did it and she had to scrub for the better part of an hour to remove most of it from her hand. I suggested using rubbing alcohol, which helped. Other users have complained of the high price of Canon-brand ink, and compared to inferior third-party inks this is true. But buying three to a box helps offset this premium a bit.
