4 Stars Great But No Viewfinder
Image display is fine, but I prefer a viewfinder to compose my shots. Sony has decided to eliminate the veiw finder, perhaps because amateurs like to hold the camera in front of them and check the display to see what they will get from the shot. Am I getting old school?

2 Stars easy to get a messy image in-doors
For out-doors picture, with good light conditions, the pictures are great and sharp. Amazing video capture.

But I was really disappointed when taking pictures in-doors. In its Intelligent Auto Ajust Mode, the camera usually picks a high iso configuration when there’s not a bright light inside a room (and I mean really bright), resulting in a bad quality picture. Looks like you’re using a 0,5 Megapixel camera.

Too bad I didn’t know much about the ISO settings before buying this camera. High ISO yields bad quality pictures, because the idea is to obtain a brighter picture in low light conditions. I wish I had bought a lower ISO camera.

5 Stars Great camera
I can’t believe this Sony camera is so easy to use, takes great picture and it costs much less than in the military base. I would recommend to anyone.

1 Star No zoom while recording kills it
I don’t care how great the quality or photos are, not being able to zoom while recording is a big problem. I’m very disappointed Sony decided to take this route because I have Sony digital cameras from 2004 that allowed you to zoom while recording so I do not understand why they took this huge step backward. I’ve sold my camera for this reason and told people to stay away. All the Kodaks that have been doing HD video since 2007 have been able to use full zoom while recording.

5 Stars Excellent feature packed smart camera
The DSC-W290 is a amazing little camera. Its feature packed and easy to use.To be honest, I needed a camera just to point and shoot and take excellent pictures whether day or night. The DSC-W290 fits the bill perfectly with its Intelligent mode which identifies all different shooting modes and environments automatically, day or night and adjusts appropriately. The LCD screen at the back is large and clear. The picture quality is amazing with crisp pictures and life-like rich colors. Even more amazing is the high-def video in 780i, total treat to watch on the big screen. The shoot-when-smiling mode actually works great too.

Another little thing – On the second day I bought the camera, I dropped it while it was still turned on. It fell hard, lens first on a rock and went bouncing. The impact bent the cylinder holding the lens. Once retracted it was stuck for good with the motor whirring trying to extend out the lens anytime I turned it on. It also suffered some dings and scratches. Even though it was my fault and the warranty was void as it was an accident, Sony service center repaired it for free and shipped it back within a week. I have to commend Sony on the quality and timeliness of the service provided. The camera worked like new and I couldn’t be happier with this product and Sony’s service.

Cons – The battery life is just around an hour or probably less when you are in video mode quite a bit. But you should be able to get a replacement battery for about $15. There is no zoom while in video mode.

A good add-on would be a 8Gb Sandisk memory card and a replacement battery to extend your shooting experience.

5 Stars Sony Cybershot 12.1MP
After the camera shipped it was delivered in only a few days and in very good condition. It works just fine and is a great point and shoot camera. If you want a camera that is easy to operate and very good quality then this one should be considered.

3 Stars small internal memory
Question: is it just assumed that you buy a memory stick because the 15mg holds only three pictures? Our camera tells us the camera’s memory is full after just three pictures. Is this the case for everyone?

5 Stars Sony/Zeiss makes great combo.
I love the size, the lens and the on-screen and menu options. The photo display does not give the final photos justice, so you have to learn to adjust your expectations. For example, many of my distant mountain shots lacked definition and depth when I looked at the camera, but when I downloaded them into iPhoto, they were sharp, with great depth and detail. So I got a 4 GB card and I don’t delete anything until I see it on the computer screen later. You’ll love this camera.

1 Star Great little camera
Great camera for its size. Not quite the picture quality of a full size, but almost. Easy to use. Works really well in all light settings. I even dropped it once with no adverse affect. The zoom really works well. The memory stick is pricey compared to the SD type. Great product for the money. I highly recommend it.

4 Stars Great for the Price
I was looking for a pocket size point-and-shoot camera with image stabilization and good picture quality for less than $200. The Sony delivered exactly that for around $150.

I find myself taking lots of spontaneous photos because it is so convenient to carry and use.

When you adjust the mode wheel the setting are projected onto the LCD screen – easy to see and the icons are clearly labeled.

Good image quality allows considerable cropping of pictures without losing too much detail.

Is it perfect? No, but the compromises are ones I can live with:

No optical viewfinder

Somewhat limited zoom (4x)

On-off switch and shutter are a little small for me

Battery life is OK but not great (definitely recommend buying a spare)

Lacks manual control of aperature and shutter speed

All in all, this is a camera that begs to be taken along with you and used frequently. Have fun with it – I am!

4 Stars Great Compact Camera
I recently purchased this camera and I have to say that I am quite impressed. I am just a causal picture taker so I was looking for a camera that was easy to use and this is perfect. The pictures come out crystal clear and the camera is so easy to use. I love the LCD screen. For me the screen is large enough to take a quality picture. The buttons are easy to use and camera itself is very sleek and extremely lightweight. I read through the instruction manual to get an idea of how to use some of the more complicated features but if you don’t have time for this it’s okay. The auto shoot mode is great!

I only have one issue with this camera. It only holds like 15MB of data which is nothing. I was just playing around with the camera and took like three pictures and a message came up that the memory was full! Not good…so I HAVE to buy a Sony Memory Stick so I can save my pictures. I really do feel this should have been included with the camera.

Other than that this is an amazing camera and I would recommend it to anyone!

2 Stars Disappointing Picutre Quaility
I took my daughter to Paris June-July 2009. This was our first trip to Europe. I wanted a camera that would capture once in a life time memories. The camera is small, light weight and has a good battery life. The problem is the picture quality. The camera took great pcitures of landscapes but failed when it came to indoor shots (day and night)and people at night.

When I developed the pictures of my daughter(size 4,6) the majority were grainy and the edges of her hair and face were blurry.

I set the camera settings correctly so that was not the issue. The problem is that the camera lacks consistency. My daughters 2 year old Cannon took much better pictures and was about $50 less than this one.

Thankfully I had a SLR as my main camera. I’ll sick to Nikon and Cannon in the future.

5 Stars Easy to Use
This camera was ready to go right out of the box. I’m no pro, so when I could change the settings with ease, I was impressed. Great pictures so far.

5 Stars Great Camera
Bought this a few weeks ago to get summertime shots of our kids. We absolutley love this camera. High quality pictures. What i love is that the screen tells you what each setting does as you change the dial. Idiot proof. I also love that you can take photos in a streeming shot – most of the ones we have tried are always on a delay and you miss the timing when you are trying to get action shots of the kids. This camera has a setting so that you can just hold the button in and it takes a series of pictures. Really like this device – hope it is reliable.

5 Stars sony camera is unbelievable!
I love it. My previous camera was a Sony Cyber-Shot, too…3.2 pixels. WOW – the difference between 3.2 and 12 is phenomenal! Easy to use, easy to transfer. A GREAT buy – unless something out of the ordinary happens, this will always be my go-to for cameras.

5 Stars Great camera!
I like it so much! I’m very pleased with my purchase. I love the color (I have it in pink) and is super sleek, it can be easily carried in a pocket.

The quality of the pictures is excellent and it has lots of features.

5 Stars Love it!!!
I was going to get a Canon camera at first since it’s a well-known and respected brand but decided to give Sony another try (I own a Sony camera which I like but wanted more megapixels to work with). Let me tell you this camera is well worth the price, it has a lot of nice features to it, all the pics are really clear and in bright vivid colors, tried different settings and they all seem to work just fine producing fine quality photos. I actually compared the quality of the pics to my friend’s taken with Canon camera (the one I wanted)on the same occasion – mine came out way better!!!!!!! My advice is not to overpay for the name, there are nice quality products out there that will not empty your wallet completely!

5 Stars Great product
I purchased this for my girlfriend to replace an aging camera. The camera is very easy to use. A true point and shoot dummy camera. It takes great photos in all different conditions such as full sun, indoors, dusk, night and so forth.

5 Stars Great Camera!!!
I live in Venezuela, and I received the camera 2 days ago… It’s great! Im loving it! It’s easy to use, the smile shutter works better than I spected, the macro shoot function works very nicely… And the high sensibility ISO 3200 improves a lot the shoots in certain places.

I also tried plugging it to the TV and making a slideshow with music and visual effects!

Im very pleased with the camera and the price is more than just for all the great functions of it.

It will be a great tool for my blog and my futures vacations. I totally recomend it.

5 Stars Great camera, great color!!!
I really love this camera. We’ve had a Sony Handycam (mini DVD & dig camera combo) for years, but I wanted a small camera that I could easily fit into my purse (since having downsized from diaper bags – yay!!). This camera is a perfect size and takes great pictures. My 7 year old also loves using it. She wants one of her own – she’ll have to wait a while! The pink color is pretty, bright and makes it easy to spot in a dark purse. It’s very easy to use, the touch screen is wonderful and the removable rechargable batteries are great. The charger is also very small and very fast. I don’t think that anybody could or should have any dislikes or problems.

User Ratings and Reviews

4 Stars Great for the price
Camera is all that I expected. Have not yet used it alot but from what I can tell so far its great.

5 Stars Refurbished
In the short time owned seems absolutely fine. Haven’t been able to rate battery life because not owned long enough

5 Stars I Did My Homework. This Is The Best Deal For The Price!
I read every review on the internet and compared all prices. I previously had a Kodak that I was happy with but needed a camera with more optical zoom for sports and inside school events. I was down to two choices the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H20 or the Kodak Easyshare Z1015IS. AFter reading all the reviews I bought the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H20 because this camera had better user reviews, was smaller, less money, and rated high by Consumer Reports. The camera is small enough to carry in your pocket but is a little heavy. The optical zoom, picture quality, and movie video are amazing. I am a very picky person and I love this camera.

5 Stars Tons of bang for your buck!!!
I purchased this camera for my recent trip along California Hwy 1. After reading the reviews here I chose this over the Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS1. I’m no pro but the proof is in the pictures. I took over 1100 with an 8GB card and every single picture came out awesome!! Even those with low light were nice and clear. People have commented how clear and bright the pictures were. I really like the large screen so you can get a better view of what you just shot. The camera is super to easy to use especially with the EASY setting (duh!!). If you prefer using some of the Scene features like gourmet food, beach, or landscape those really enhance the shot. The 10x Zoom lens can’t be beat. Overall a great purchase. I would suggest upgrading your battery to the NP-FG1. It seems to hold a charge better than the NP-BG1 which comes w/the camera

5 Stars The Bomb!
I bought this camera for a week-long trip to D.C., NYC and Niagara Falls in September ‘09. I reviewed many cameras and got a number of recommendations from friends. Then I came upon this little guy while on Amazon.com. I am over the top happy with this camera. Battery charges fast & holds charge for hours in spite of off/on, zoom, movies, play back, etc. I was really pleased. Never once did I have any problems with the camera. Power up to 1st shot is very quick. Clarity of 3″ LCD screen is incredible. I put one of those screen protectors on since I knew I’d be haulin’ it everywhere. That works great as well. I used an 8GB data card and it holds tons of shots & vids. The only thing I was worried about was the lens caps and what a “hassel” it would be. But it really wasn’t a problem at all. The on/off action of the lens cap becomes an automatic action. When taking movies, remember to move the mode back to pics to avoid delays. I made that mistake a couple of times. Hopefully this helps those who are on the fence. No it’s not micro-compact but it’s small enough to slip into a jacket pocket, purse, etc. Placement of the data port is odd and the PC cable is bulky but for the quality I don’t care. My friends carried a Nikon P90 and a Canon is1000 – This Sony H20 outperformed them 90% of the time (simple point & shoot use) indoors & out. Especially on zoom shots. Did I mention how much I love this camera?
